Adani Realty Employee Shot Dead, Former Colleague and Husband Arrested

A 31-year-old Adani Realty employee, who went missing after leaving a South East Delhi restaurant for an urgent meeting, was allegedly shot dead inside a car by his former colleague and her husband, police officials announced on Thursday.

The suspects, identified as Gurugram residents Anya Vats and her husband Sanyam Sachdeva, were arrested from Kainchi Dham in Uttarakhand. The arrest took place nearly two weeks after the victim, Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, went missing on September 6. Yuvraj, who worked in the human resources department at Adani Realty, resided in Sarita Vihar.

Disappearance and Investigation

On September 6, Yuvraj was having lunch with his sister, a doctor based in Faridabad, at the Golden Dragon restaurant in K Block of Lajpat Nagar. At around 4 pm, he received a phone call and left abruptly, informing his sister that he had an urgent meeting in Gurugram and would return home by 10 pm.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Vineet Kumar, Yuvraj did not return, and his mobile phone was found to be switched off, prompting his family to search for him. When he remained missing, his sister filed a complaint at the Lajpat Nagar police station on September 11, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).

During the investigation, police analysed Yuvraj's call records and discovered that the final call he received before leaving the restaurant was from Anya. Yuvraj's family informed the police that Anya had allegedly been repeatedly calling and harassing him for a long period. Because both Yuvraj and Anya's mobile phones were switched off, police conducted an extensive investigation that included reviewing CCTV camera footage.

Discovery of the Body and Arrests

During the search, Delhi Police learned that an unidentified body had been recovered from a drain in Sector 70 of Gurugram on September 10. Photographs of the deceased were shown to Yuvraj's family, who identified him as the missing 31-year-old.

Police subsequently traced an active mobile number used by Anya to Uttarakhand. A police team was dispatched to the state, where they arrested Anya and her husband, Sanyam, in the Kainchi Dham area. The couple has a one-year-old child. Following their arrest, both suspects were produced before a court, which remanded them to five days of police custody.

Past Professional Dispute and Alleged Motive

According to the police, Anya and Yuvraj had previously worked together at the real estate firm Emaar. In 2022, both employees were terminated following allegations of financial mismanagement. Yuvraj's family claimed that his termination was caused by Anya.

Police stated that the two also had unresolved financial disputes. While Yuvraj eventually secured employment with Adani Realty, Anya remained unemployed. A police source noted that Yuvraj's family alleged Anya had been harassing him continuously since their termination, making frequent phone calls, initiating arguments, and disrupting his professional life.

On September 6, Anya allegedly called Yuvraj to arrange a meeting. Police stated that Yuvraj went to meet her, after which Anya and her husband got him into their vehicle and shot him twice. The suspects allegedly left the body inside the car for five to six hours before dumping it in a drain near their residence during the early hours of the morning, after which they fled to Uttarakhand.
