The 2026-27 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) will mark the 12th season of the competition, with the tournament scheduled to run from October 29, 2026, to December 5, 2026. The opening fixture of the season will feature the Melbourne Renegades taking on the Sydney Thunder on October 29 at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.

The tournament will feature eight city-based franchises, mirroring the team structure of the men's Big Bash League. Every Australian state capital city hosts at least one team, while both Sydney and Melbourne field two franchises each.

League Format and Match Structure

The WBBL 2026-27 season will consist of a total of 43 matches, incorporating a double round-robin stage followed by knockout finals. A total of 40 league matches will be contested during the initial stage, with each of the eight participating franchises playing 10 fixtures.

In the league stage, each team is scheduled to play three designated rival teams twice in home-and-away fixtures, while facing the remaining four franchises once. The points allocation system awards two points for a victory, while one point is awarded to each team in the event of a tied match or an abandoned fixture resulting in no outcome.

Playoff System and Final Qualification

Following the completion of the 40 league games, the top four teams on the WBBL 2026-27 standings will advance to the playoff phase. If teams finish tied on points, standings will be determined using Net Run Rate (NRR) to determine which side advances.

The playoff system involves a Knockout match, a Challenger match, and the Final:

  • The first-placed team on the points table qualifies directly for the Final match.
  • The third-placed and fourth-placed teams face each other in the Knockout match, where the losing team is eliminated.
  • The winner of the Knockout match advances to the Challenger match to play against the second-placed team.
  • The winner of the Challenger match secures the remaining spot in the Final, while the loser is eliminated.
