Vadodara Woman Alleges Mother-in-Law Threw Acid After Dispute Over Cleaning Bathroom
A 26-year-old woman in Vadodara, Gujarat, has accused her mother-in-law of throwing acid at her face and neck following a dispute over household chores. The alleged incident, which resulted in minor burn injuries for the victim, led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Gorwa police station.
According to the police complaint, the incident occurred on September 10 at a rented apartment in a residential society located on Panchvati Sahyog Road in the Gorwa area of Vadodara. The confrontation reportedly began when the mother-in-law demanded that the victim clean the bathroom of the apartment using acid, which the younger woman refused to do.
Police Register Case Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit
Following the victim's complaint, the Gorwa police registered an FIR against her family members. The case has been filed under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), reflecting charges of domestic violence and physical assault.
The charges registered in the FIR include:
- Section 85: Domestic cruelty by a husband or his relatives
- Section 124(1): Acid attacks resulting in grievous hurt
- Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt
- Section 296(2): Public annoyance through obscene acts
Allegations of Ongoing Domestic Harassment
In her statement to the police, the 26-year-old woman revealed that she married her husband, a resident of Vadodara, in 2021. She alleged that since her marriage, she has been subjected to repeated quarrels as well as physical and mental harassment.
The victim named her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and two sisters-in-law in her complaint, accusing them of ongoing domestic cruelty prior to the alleged acid attack on September 10. Local police are conducting further investigations into the allegations detailed in the complaint.
