The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieved a significant victory in the Andhra Pradesh Urban Local Body (ULB) Elections 2026. The coalition, which comprises the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Jana Sena Party (JSP), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured control over the vast majority of municipal corporations and municipalities across the state, dealing a severe electoral setback to the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

The vote-counting process concluded on November 3 and November 4, cementing the ruling alliance's dominance in urban centres. The elections were conducted across 100 Urban Local Bodies, which included 13 municipal corporations alongside 87 municipalities and Nagar Panchayats.

Mayoral Results across Key Municipal Corporations

The Telugu Desam Party emerged as the primary victor in the mayoral contests across the state. In the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), TDP candidate Mukka Sravani registered a historic victory with a reported margin of 2.5 lakh votes. In Tirupati, TDP's Manne Srinivasa Prasad (J.B. Srinivas) won the mayoral seat by a margin of 30,972 votes.

Other key mayoral victories for the TDP included P. Roop Kumar Yadav in Nellore with an 18,393-vote margin, Kathari Hemalatha in Chittoor, Kovelamudi Lakshmi Aparna in Guntur, Avanapu Bhargavi in Vizianagaram, Vijay Prathyusha in Kurnool, Suvarna in Kadapa, Nallimilli Sri Shilpa in Ongole, and Abida in Machilipatnam.

The Jana Sena Party successfully contested and won two mayoral posts. JSP candidate Vangaveeti Radhakrishna secured the mayoral seat in Vijayawada by defeating YSRCP candidate Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, while Reddy Appalanayudo won the mayoral contest in Eluru. In total, the TDP won or led in 10 of the 13 municipal corporations, while the JSP secured two. The opposition YSRCP recorded a single mayoral victory, with Ramesh Goud winning in Anantapur.

Municipal Chairperson Outcomes and BJP Seat Tally

Out of 87 municipalities, the NDA captured 79. A prominent result occurred in Pulivendula, where TDP candidate T. Geetha Kumari defeated YSRCP's Y.S. Prameelamma by 13,898 votes. In Pithapuram, the constituency represented by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Danam Lazar Babu of the JSP clinched the chairperson position. Other winning candidates for the coalition included Jyothsna Rani (JSP) in Pedana, Anusha (TDP) in Jangareddygudem, and Sheikh Arshia Banu (TDP) in Kadiri, who won by a majority of 905 votes. The YSRCP secured a chairperson post in Nandikotkur, marking one of its few municipality wins.

The BJP contested approximately 260 seats in the local body elections and won around 155 seats overall across corporator and municipal councillor positions. This figure includes 33 corporator seats. Overall, the NDA alliance recorded an estimated strike rate of 92 per cent in the municipal corporation contests.

Electoral Process and Political Reactions

TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao attributed the election outcome to public trust in Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership as well as the administration's welfare and development initiatives. Conversely, YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that the electoral process was compromised throughout its stages, including nominations, scrutiny, polling, and counting.

The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission had initially slated polling for October 30, 2026. However, the schedule was revised following a Supreme Court directive. Polling across the 100 Urban Local Bodies was conducted on November 1, 2026, from 7 am to 5 pm, using traditional paper ballots instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Repolling took place on November 2 where required, leading into the counting of votes on November 3.
