Fact Check: Viral Video Claiming Karmelo Anthony Was Stabbed in Prison Is a Hoax

A viral video circulating on social media that claims the mother of convict Karmelo Anthony revealed her son was stabbed in prison is a hoax. No official reports confirm that the 19-year-old has been stabbed or injured while serving his sentence.

Anthony is currently serving a 35-year prison sentence at the Wallace Pack Unit (P1) of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was convicted for the stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025. Following a period of relative inactivity in the case after August 2024, online misinformation regarding his status has recently surfaced.

Viral Video Claims Disproved

The misleading video, which has accumulated nearly 2 million views, was shared by the X account named Observate. The post accompanied the video with a caption claiming that Anthony's mother broke down in tears, revealing her son was stabbed more than 10 times during a phone call with her and was fighting for his life in a hospital.

However, an analysis of the 1.5-minute footage reveals it has no connection to the Karmelo Anthony case. The video depicts a Black individual crying inside a vehicle and discussing an incident involving three witnesses. The individual in the video mentions being "protected by the Black Panthers right now" and makes no reference to Anthony or the Frisco stabbing incident.

Details of the Court Appeal

While online rumors continue to spread, legal proceedings regarding Anthony's conviction are moving forward. His defense attorneys have filed an appeal with the Dallas Court of Appeals seeking a new trial, presenting arguments that the original trial was unfair.

The appeal is scheduled to be registered in October of this year. Formal arguments regarding the appeal are set to begin later in 2027.
