Arjun Das and Anna Ben Starrer Con City Set for Netflix Premiere on July 24
The heist comedy drama Con City, starring Arjun Das and Anna Ben, is set to make its digital debut on Netflix on July 24. The announcement follows the film's theatrical release on June 26, offering audiences another opportunity to watch the unconventional caper from home.
Directed by debutant filmmaker Harish Durairaj, the movie blends elements of humour, family drama, and crime. The narrative is designed as a fast-paced entertainer centered around a household with an unusual line of work.
A Family of Scammers in Mangalore
Set against the backdrop of Mangalore, Con City follows what appears to be an ordinary household. Beneath the surface, however, the family operates as a tightly knit gang of seasoned con artists who sustain themselves by pulling off elaborate scams.
Arjun Das and Anna Ben portray the central couple of the story. Veteran actor Vadivukkarasi and comedian Yogi Babu round out the quirky family dynamic. Their structured life is disrupted when their differently-abled son, Jeeva, is kidnapped. Left with no other choice, the family is forced to orchestrate one final high-stakes con to identify the kidnapper and rescue the young boy.
The film's premise combines emotional family stakes with the mechanics of a classic heist thriller. Rather than focusing on hardened criminals, the story highlights an eccentric family whose unique skills become their primary weapon during a deeply personal crisis.
Ensemble Cast and Production Details
As the debut feature of director Harish Durairaj, Con City attempts to fuse multiple genres into a single narrative. Alongside the lead actors, the film features a large supporting cast, including Akhilan, Nanda Gopal, Sakshi Vaidya, Dheepa Ramanujam, Arul Doss, Radha Ravi, Shaji Chen, Ramesh Thilak, Thambi Ramaiah, Imman Annachi, Baradwaj Rangan, Madan Dakshinamoorthy, Ragu Esaki, Ponvannan, and Sathanand.
On the technical side, the film features cinematography by Aravind Viswanathan, capturing both the busy streets and quieter areas of Mangalore. Editing was handled by Arulmoses A, while Raj Kamal served as the art director, shaping the visual identity of the film.
The project is produced by Power House Pictures as its maiden production venture, in association with M&M Movie Makers and Klout Studios.
Theatrical Reception and Digital Release
Upon its theatrical release in June, Con City received mixed responses from critics and audiences. While many viewers appreciated the offbeat premise, quirky humour, and performances of the ensemble cast, opinions were divided regarding its execution and tonal shifts. Nonetheless, the film generated curiosity for placing a family of scammers at the centre of an emotional rescue mission.
The project marks another notable role for Arjun Das, who has steadily expanded his filmography after gaining recognition in Tamil cinema through films like Kaithi and Master. Co-star Anna Ben continues to balance Malayalam and Tamil projects, maintaining a reputation for choosing character-driven stories.
With its upcoming release on Netflix, the film seeks to reach a wider audience online, potentially introducing the heist comedy to viewers who missed its initial run in theatres.
