Former tennis World No. 1 and six-time Grand Slam champion Sania Mirza has joined the private investment firm Terra-Invest. In her new role, Mirza will co-lead the firm's activities across two of its high-conviction investment verticals: longevity and preventative health, alongside the sports and athletic performance economy.

Mirza will work directly with Terra-Invest's founding partners on investment origination, due diligence, and portfolio value creation. She joins the firm to bring an operator's perspective to a portfolio that Terra-Invest has been developing over several years.

Bridging Human Performance and Healthspan

Terra-Invest has been actively investing in both the health and sports sectors. The firm's existing portfolio includes holdings such as Smashers Sports, Shookra, The 2100 Club, and Precision Diagnostics. According to the firm, these investment areas converge on the thesis that human performance and human healthspan are increasingly becoming the same market.

Commenting on her transition into the role, Mirza highlighted the connection between her athletic career and her new investment focus. "I spent twenty years treating my body as the asset," Mirza said. "You learn quickly that recovery, diagnostics and prevention are not luxuries; they're the whole game. What drew me to Terra-Invest is that they were building in this space before it became a headline. I'm here to identify opportunities, back them, and help them grow."

Ankiti Bose, a partner at Terra-Invest, noted that Mirza's experience in sustaining excellence over two decades and her subsequent work as a builder make her a valuable addition to the wellness and sports portfolio. "She sees things in a founder that a spreadsheet doesn't," Bose said.

Krishan Rattan, also a partner at Terra-Invest, added that the capital in the region is currently ahead of the infrastructure in the converging fields of health and sport. Rattan stated that Mirza provides the firm with reach, judgement, and access that would otherwise take a decade to establish.

From Centre Court to Venture Capital

Mirza is one of India's most decorated athletes, having won six Grand Slam titles and becoming the first Indian woman to reach the World No. 1 ranking in any tennis discipline in April 2015. She held the top doubles ranking for 91 consecutive weeks and won 43 WTA titles over a professional career spanning nearly two decades. She was also the first Indian woman to win a WTA singles title and won eight Asian Games medals, two Commonwealth Games medals, and four Afro-Asian Games medals.

For her contributions to sports, Mirza has received several of India's highest honours, including the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Shri, the Arjuna Award, and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna. She retired from professional tennis in 2023 at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

Since her retirement, Mirza has established herself as an entrepreneur and investor. She founded the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy (SMTA) to provide young players in India with professional-grade coaching and facilities. She has also invested in and advised ventures across the sports, media, health, and consumer brand sectors, and has served as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia and India's Ambassador for the "Save the girl child" campaign.
