Operation Safed Sagar Trailer Launched in Mumbai: Siddharth Shares Emotional Moment with Martyr's Wife Alka Ahuja
The trailer launch of the upcoming Netflix project, Operation Safed Sagar, was held in Mumbai, bringing together the cast, crew, and several real-life military personalities. The event served as a platform to introduce the series, which is scheduled to release on Netflix on August 7.
The launch was attended by cast members Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Dia Mirza, Prajakta Koli, Abhay Verma, Mihir Ahuja, Taaruk Raina, Arnav Bhasin, and Amrita Bagchi. Director Oni Sen, producers Sanjay Routray, Sarita Patil, and Mehboob Pal Singh Brar, along with executive producers Abhijeet Singh Parmar (who also wrote the project) and Kushal Srivastava, were also present. Netflix representatives Monika Shergill and Tanya Bami attended the event as well.
Felicitations of Real-Life Personalities
The event featured the felicitation of several real-life personalities connected to the story. Among those honoured were Group Captain Amit Gupta, Group Captain Alok Chaudhry, Group Captain Tarun Kumar Singha, former Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A P Singh.
Alka Ahuja, the wife of the late Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, was also felicitated at the event. When a journalist asked her a question, she came onto the stage to answer, prompting the entire audience and stage guests to stand up as a mark of respect.
Following her response, Siddharth addressed her directly, sharing details of a conversation he had with writer Abhijeet Parmar. "Yesterday, Abhijeet Parmar and I spoke for a long time. Both of us are emotional and we spoke about you a lot," Siddharth said. "You said something to me and Abhijeet, which I’ll share with you all later. But from my side and everyone else on this stage, thank you so much for the permission to do this. We would not have done that without you."
In response, Alka Ahuja smiled and said, "I don’t have any videos of Ajay. At least, I have an image of Ajay now!" The statement left Siddharth visibly emotional, with tears in his eyes.
Siddharth on the Responsibility of Portraying Martyrs
Siddharth spoke about his initial hesitation when he was first approached for the role by Oni Sen and Abhijeet Parmar. He explained the challenges of portraying real-life heroes and martyrs in entertainment.
"My first reaction was of hesitation," Siddharth said. "There’s a way our heroes are depicted in our entertainment and engagement, especially our martyrs, who are not here to defend or accept portrayals that you are portraying for them. It’s little difficult for me and it's easier for me to play a fictional character."
He further elaborated on the tendency to oversimplify these figures. "Secondly, the moment we know someone is a martyr, we tend to sterilise them. We tend to whitewash them. None of us is like that. Heroes don’t look like heroes. They are heroes because of their actions," he added.
To ensure the portrayal remained respectful, Siddharth engaged in detailed discussions with the creative team. "I didn’t want to do injustice to somebody’s memory. So, I had a lengthy discussion with Abhijeet, Oni, Kushal and everybody else who made the show. We ensured that we always stayed true to the integrity of a great man’s memory and a soldier’s story," he said. He noted that his primary concern was whether Alka Ahuja had granted permission for the project.
Lighthearted Exchanges and Injury Clarification
Siddharth attended the event wearing a medical sling on his arm, which prompted questions from the media. Earlier in the event, younger cast members had mentioned that they grew up watching Siddharth's films.
When asked about his hand, Siddharth joked, "Bachpan se meri filmein dekhte aa rahe hai yeh log. Toh zaahir si baat hai kahin na kahin toh chot lagna hi hai. I am just kidding."
When pressed further by another reporter about what happened to his hand, Siddharth clarified that it was nothing serious. "It's just due to a small operation. It's regular wear and tear. Old age bolte hai isko!" he remarked.
Siddharth then turned the joke toward co-star Adil Hussain, who was also present. "I want to pass on the compliment and favour. I have grown up watching Adil sir! And you have done very selective work; so, I have grown up very slowly!" he joked, easing the emotional tone of the event.
