Actor Mrunal Thakur has reflected on the four-year wait leading up to the release of her film Pooja Meri Jaan, discussing her evolution as a performer, the movie's emotional weight, and her experiences with public scrutiny regarding her personal life. Shot nearly four years ago shortly after her work in Sita Ramam, the project recently premiered on ZEE5.

Speaking in an interview with India Today, Thakur expressed gratitude over the film's reception. She noted that while the release experienced delays, she maintained a strong connection to the project. Reflecting on the timing of the release, Thakur shared that she has adopted a mindset of allowing events to occur when they are meant to happen.

Reflections on Performance and On-Set Memories

Looking back at her performance, Thakur discussed how her approach to acting has shifted since the film was recorded. While reviewing certain scenes with director Navjot Gulati and co-actor Vikram Singh Chauhan, she observed that she might perform those moments differently today. However, Gulati emphasized that the original execution captured a necessary rawness and vulnerability that contributed to the character.

Despite the passage of time, Thakur stated she retained vivid memories of the production. She recalled shooting her very first scene for the film at The Imperial in Delhi alongside Chauhan, who played her prospective husband in the scene. She also noted that revisiting old photos from the shoot brought back clear details of her experience on set.

Themes, Relevance, and Audience Impact

Thakur described Pooja Meri Jaan as an emotionally challenging project. Director Navjot Gulati wrote the script around 2016 or 2017, drawing inspiration from various case studies. Thakur noted that while the team viewed it simply as a movie during production, its themes regarding consent and personal boundaries remain highly relevant today.

She mentioned receiving feedback from male viewers who reflected on the message that a refusal should be respected without further pressure. Thakur expressed pride in the discussions the film has generated, adding that she believes the story's core subject will allow it to retain its relevance over time.

Addressing Public Scrutiny and Media Rumours

The themes of the film connected with Thakur's own observations regarding societal judgement and constant speculation surrounding her personal life. She commented on how routine social interactions, such as smiling or having coffee, are frequently misinterpreted by the media as dating.

Thakur explained that while reading speculative headlines was initially exhausting, she now manages the attention through open conversations with her parents and humor. Directed by Navjot Gulati, Pooja Meri Jaan features an ensemble cast that includes Huma Qureshi, Vikram Singh Chauhan, and Vijay Raaz alongside Thakur.
