Joju George and Joshiy Reunite for Pan-India Film Kanaandesham Written by Anoop Menon
Veteran filmmaker Joshiy and actor Joju George are set to collaborate once again for an upcoming feature film titled Kanaandesham. The project marks the third joint venture for the duo, who previously delivered the acclaimed drama Porinju Mariam Jose in 2019 and the action drama Antony in 2023. Actor, writer, and filmmaker Anoop Menon has been roped in to write the screenplay for the new film.
The official announcement of the project was made on Sunday to coincide with Joshiy's birthday. Sharing the news on social media, Joju George expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, writing, "Announcing our next film directed by the living Legend....happy birthday dearest joshiy sir..seeking all your blessings for our dream project.. The Legend Back Again."
A Commercial Entertainer with Emotional Depth
The announcement video for Kanaandesham featured a tagline that translates to, "This is your earth, your sky," suggesting the film's emotional and large-scale ambitions. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the makers have positioned the project as a commercial entertainer designed to blend mass appeal with emotional depth, a signature style of Joshiy's previous works with Joju George.
The film also marks a reunion for Joju George and Anoop Menon, who last worked together more than a decade ago on the 2013 film Hotel California. Anoop Menon had penned the screenplay and played a leading role in that film. As a writer, Anoop Menon is known for scripting well-received Malayalam films such as Cocktail, Beautiful, and Trivandrum Lodge, which were noted for their character development and engaging narratives.
Pan-India Release and Production Timeline
Kanaandesham is being produced by Sijo Vadakkan and Varky George under the Appu Pathu Pappu production banner. The makers are mounting the project on a large scale, planning a pan-India release across five languages. This multi-language release strategy aligns with the expanding reach of Malayalam cinema into broader regional markets.
Production for the film is scheduled to commence in August. While the remaining cast and crew members have not yet been officially revealed, the producers have indicated that the film will feature several prominent stars and technical professionals from the Malayalam film industry.
Upcoming Projects for the Team
Director Joshiy, whose career spans over four decades, has helmed numerous blockbusters in Malayalam cinema, including New Delhi, Dhruvam, Lelam, and Run Baby Run. Alongside Kanaandesham, Joshiy is also working on an untitled action entertainer starring Unni Mukundan, written by Abhilash N Chandran, which was announced on the director's birthday last year.
Joju George also maintains a busy schedule. He was recently seen in Shaji Kailas' Varavu, the release of which was rescheduled to June. His upcoming projects include Aja Sundari, a sequel to his directorial debut Pani, another self-directed film titled Paripadi, and Aasha, where he will share the screen with Urvashi.
