Gerald Coetzee Returns to South Africa ODI Squad for Australia Series
The fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been returned to the South Africa ODI squad for the upcoming series against Australia.
Coetzee has been out of the limited-overs format since the 2023 ODI World Cup and has been battling injury concerns since then.
However, he did play in the four-day contest against Bangladesh A.
"It's great to see Gerald back in the fold and, by all accounts, he's been bowling nice and quickly," said Conrad.
With the absence of Kagiso Rabada and Nandre Burger, the inclusion of the pacer will replenish the pace attack.
"KG is out of the ODIs, and we are constantly monitoring his rehabilitation. When we sit down to select a Test squad, we will make an informed decision. He is tracking nicely, going on reports from physios," said Conrad during a press conference.
"Anrich Nortje was not considered for the ODIs. I don't think he has done enough for now, but don't be surprised if he plays the Bangladesh series."
South Africa ODI Squad for Australia
The South Africa Men's selection panel has today announced a 16-player squad for the three-match Dafabet One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia from 24-30 September.
Temba Bavuma will captain the side, which sees DP World Lions fast bowler Gerald Coetzee return to the squad.
Lutho Sipamla, who was named in the squad for the Namibia T20I Tri-Series, has been withdrawn from the squad due to a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Prenelan Subrayen, Rubin Hermann and Dewald Brevis have been left out of the squad that played the last ODI series.
Speaking on the inclusion of Quinton de Kock, South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad said, "Quinny is going to be playing whenever we need him to play."
"ODI cricket is probably Quinny's best format, and he will play all the ODIs. David will play Australia and probably miss Bangladesh because he has ILT20 commitments."
The squad includes Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, Corbin Bosch, Kwena Maphaka and Ottneil Baartman in the pace unit, while Keshav Maharaj and Bjorn Fortuin will cover the spin department.
Aiden Markram will be available only for the second and third ODIs, along with Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs.
