CJP Calls Fresh Jantar Mantar Protest as Delhi Police Maintain High Security
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has issued a call for a fresh protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi at 10 am on Sunday, prompting Delhi Police to maintain heightened security measures across the capital. Around 30,000 police personnel, supported by 200 companies of paramilitary forces, will remain deployed to maintain order following demonstrations and mass detentions conducted on Saturday.
Barricades placed at Parliament Street and Jantar Mantar will remain in position. Police officials stated that security arrangements on Sunday will match the deployment level from the previous day, adding that decisions regarding Metro and train services may be taken based on how the ground situation evolves.
CJP Demands Resignation Amid Continued Mobilisation
Ajinkya Shinde, the national organisation in-charge for the CJP, announced the 'Chalo Jantar Mantar' demonstration in a post on X, calling on supporters to assemble at the designated venue. Shinde stated that the protest is aimed at securing the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, whom he accused of depriving 12 crore voters of their voting rights.
Commenting on the detentions of CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, and Saurabh Das, alongside student leaders and volunteers, Shinde claimed the action was an attempt to create fear. He urged supporters to gather in large numbers, stating that wherever police block their movement, protesters should demonstrate at that spot. According to a CJP statement, more than 15,000 people—including students, civil society members, and political leaders—faced police action and detention during Saturday's protests.
Security Monitoring and Detainee Status
Delhi Police sources indicated that security personnel will keep close watch over sensitive locations across the South, Central, and New Delhi districts, including INA, Raj Ghat, and Red Fort. The continued vigilance follows Saturday's demonstrations at sites such as INA and Connaught Place. Authorities anticipate potential movement toward Central Delhi on Sunday and plan to review the overall deployment by Sunday evening.
Uncertainty remains over the release of detained individuals, who are being held at approximately 30 detention centres across the capital. As of late Saturday, police had not released three CJP leaders or YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, and their locations were not disclosed. Student groups including AISA and SFI stated they are awaiting the release of their workers, with AISA activist N Sai Balaji alleging beatings in custody and denial of lawyer access. The CJP-SFI-AISF alliance indicated plans to issue a protest call in the coming days.
